2026 Summer Study Abroad Program

The Globe Runner Scholarship Fund of the Albuquerque Community Foundation is offering a scholarship for a 2- to 3-week AFS Intercultural Programs summer Global Prep Program. The Globe Runner scholarship will be matched by an AFS Faces of America Scholarship.

We’re pleased to offer this exciting study abroad opportunity to New Mexico Simon Scholars. Please answer all questions. Your answers will not necessarily qualify or disqualify you. All of your answers will help us determine if this program is a good fit for you. New Mexico Simon Scholars Program will nominate 4 candidates for the study abroad opportunity. AFS Faces of America will make all final participant selections.

WHAT IS COVERED

• All program expenses
• Travel from Albuquerque or Santa Fe
• Passport and visa fees
• Required immunizations, if not covered by insurance

Students provide their own spending money (recommended $400-$600).

EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Complete the application requirements and apply for a passport and visa (if needed) by the deadlines.
• Personally write the application essays without use of AI.
• Attend several required meetings
  • An introductory meeting and celebration on November 15
  • An orientation in May
  • A wrap-up session after students return in August
• Read email and Whatsapp messages regularly and respond promptly.
• “Pay it forward” by helping at the fall introductory meeting and spring orientation the year following their return
